Access Weekly Beach Report Card Grades Using Your Cell Phone

Heal the Bay's Beach Report Card (BRC) grades can be accessed via SMS (Short Message Service, otherwise known as text messaging).

This new version of the BRC allows anyone with a cell phone or other hand-held device to obtain water quality data anytime and anywhere through text messaging technology.

How it works

Beach Report Card water quality grade information is available instantly for any of California's monitored beaches via a text message. First, lookup the SMS keyword assigned to your beach. Next, send a text message with the beach’s name to the number 23907. The current grade for that beach will be text messaged back immediately.

Please note that standard text messaging rates apply according to your wireless service plan. Check with your wireless service provider if you have questions.

GoLive! Mobile, a Los Angeles-based firm, is the company providing the technology for the Beach Report Card and other various text messaging projects at Heal the Bay.

What is SMS?

SMS stands for Short Message Service. Often called text messaging, SMS is a means of sending short messages to and from mobile phones. SMS is supported on most hand-held devices including cell phones and personal digital assistants.
