Heal the Bay Aquarium Science Camp

When school is out Heal the Bay Aquarium Science Camp is in! Let your budding marine scientist to swim into fun during their upcoming school breaks this Holiday Season.

Join us at Heal the Bay Aquarium Science Camp. Give your future aquarist a chance to chill out this winter and learn all about the animals who call the ocean home! In-person camp sessions are offered to all school-age little ones, from Transitional Kindergarten through 6th grade. Through discovery and exploration, Campers enjoy a variety of science experiments, activities, games, and crafts. Our in-person Camp sessions happen Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 2 PM.

Spring Break Camp Sessions

Session 1: April 3 – April 7, 2023

(Transitional Kindergarten – Grade 6, Ages 5- 13)

Celebrate the beauty of our ocean this Spring Break at Heal the Bay Aquarium Spring Science Camp. Where do all the whales go in the winter? What makes tide-pools so important? How can we give the gift of a beautiful ocean to our marine friends? Each day we’ll learn the answers to these questions and more with hands-on, and “fins-on” learning and lots of fun.

· Day 1: Migration Monday – Start camp off with a splash and learn about the magical migration of the marine mammals that travel along the Santa Monica’s coastal waters.

· Day 2: Tiny Tuesday – Discover how the smallest animals at the Aquarium can make a huge impact in the ocean with some microscopic misadventures.

· Day 3: Weird Wednesday – Some sea creatures can seem almost supernatural. Take a deep dive into what makes our underwater dwellers unique.

· Day 4: Toothy Thursday – Do fish have teeth? How do starfish eat? Can sharks smile? Discover the dental differences between some of the Pacific Ocean’s most iconic creatures.

· Day 5: Friendly Fishing Friday -Shell-ebrate a great week of camp with Fri-YAY fun and an ice cream party at the Aquarium!

Cost: $400 for the full week, OR $80 daily; T-shirt and fun science kit with registration (given out first day of camp/attendance)

Please note the grade range indicates what grade the camper entered in Fall 2022.

SCHOLARSHIP

Thanks to the generosity of community partners, we have a limited number of camp scholarships available. If you need partial or full financial assistance for your child to attend virtual camp, please fill out the application in the registration above after reading our Camp Scholarship Eligibility and Application.


CANCELLATION POLICY

For cancellations made prior to 2 weeks before the start of your registered camp session, the camp fee can be refunded, less a $50 administration fee. Cancellations made within 2 weeks of the start of your registered camp session are non-refundable.

*COVID-19 Health & Safety Guidelines

  • All guests are strongly recommended to wear a face mask covering both mouth and nose inside of the Aquarium.
  • Campers will maintain a 3-foot distance from others when able and feasible.
  • Campers will not attend if they are sick with a fever and/or respiratory symptoms, or have received a positive COVID test within the last 5-10 days.
  • If campers have come into contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19, they should wear a mask at all times, get tested 3-5 days from exposure, and watch for symptoms.
  • No food or drink is allowed inside Heal the Bay Aquarium. Snacks and lunch will be eaten outside.
  • Hand sanitizer is available at our exit, and we have hand washing areas on-site for camper convenience and use.
  • These guidelines are subject to change based on CDC and LA County Department of Public Health guidelines for how to remain safe and reduce risk.
