Film Screening: The Smog of the Sea
July 22, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Thanks to our friends at All At Once, the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium will be hosting a special screening of, “The Smog of the Sea,” filmmaker Ian Cheney’s documentary about a research expedition through the Sargasso Sea in the North Atlantic Ocean.
The film screening, scheduled for 4:15 pm, is included with Aquarium admission. Following the film, join a discussion on how to combat plastic pollution with Heal the Bay staff. Your admission into the Aquarium also includes an entry into our raffle for the ultimate #StrawlessSummer pack featuring sweet gear from Klean Kanteen, Patagonia, Santa Monica Pier Aquarium and Heal the Bay, which will be raffled off after the screening.
About “The Smog of the Sea”: Marcus Eriksen, Research Director and co-founder of the 5 Gyres Institute, assembled a unique crew of citizen scientists who sailed with him to study the fate of plastics in the world’s oceans. His crew included renowned surfers Keith & Dan Malloy, musician Jack Johnson, spear fisherwoman Kimi Werner, and bodysurfer Mark Cunningham. Learn more at www.thesmogofthesea.com.
