Join the Trash Bowl Fan Cleanup Face-off at Santa Monica Beach

January 1 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Calling all Rose Bowl fans to join Trash Bowl Fan Cleanup Face-off at Santa Monica Pier on January 1, 2023, 12 PM – 3 PM.

Stop by Heal the Bay Aquarium on New Year’s Day to grab a bucket, and participate in a self-guided cleanup of Santa Monica Beach for your favorite Rose Bowl team. Come join us Sunday afternoon as Utah and Penn State football supporters square off at Heal the Bay’s inaugural Trash Bowl beach cleanup on Santa Monica Beach. At the end of the day, we’ll tally the total pounds collected by each fandom to see which team will win our first Heal the Bay Trash Bowl!!

Show some school pride — and some love for the sea — by competing to see whether the Pac-12 or Big Ten can collect the most debris along the Santa Monica shoreline. Winners get bragging rights, but all participants get free admission to the Heal the Bay Aquarium after a fun, informative 30-minute cleanup.

Right now, there’s enough trash floating in L.A.’s stormdrain system to fill the Rose Bowl twice. Pitch in to remove discarded plastic straws, cigarette butts, bottle tops and the like before they harm animal life. No experience or equipment necessary. Bring the whole family to the sun and surf and do a bit of good by tackling ocean pollution before Monday’s Big Game. Think of it as a legal use of the hands!

The event kicks off at 12:00 p.m. at Heal the Bay Aquarium, located at the base of the Pier below the Carousel. We’ll provide the supplies and instruction. You provide the school spirit!

If you have any questions, please contact our Aquarium staff at 310-393-6149.
