Heal the Bay Events
November 2024 MPA Watch Community Science Training
November 13 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
FreeDo you like science AND long walks on the beach? Then join Heal the Bay’s community science program, MPA Watch! Volunteers will be trained on how to collect data while walking along the most beautiful beaches of Malibu and Palos Verdes.
Monitoring done by MPA Watchers helps encourage enforcement and regulation around marine protected areas (MPAs), also known as “underwater Yosemites.”
Become a volunteer by attending the two-part training program, which includes one virtual classroom training and one field training session. All training materials will be provided.
Wednesday, November 13 – Classroom Training (Virtual)

- 5:30 P.M. – 7:00 P.M.
- **Must have previously attended a Heal the Bay Volunteer Orientation!
Saturday, November 16 – Field Training (In-person)
- TBD – (in-person location will be disclosed at classroom training)
- 12:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M.
- Classroom training must be completed
Attendance to both sessions is required to become an MPA Watch certified volunteer, as well as attendance to Heal the Bay’s New Volunteer Orientation. You may attend a New Volunteer Orientation before or after attending our MPA Watch training.
PLEASE NOTE:
**Must Register to participate. Walk-on attendance is not permitted and shifts are limited
**A previous Heal the Bay Volunteer Orientation MUST be attended and completed before you can attend the MPA event. The orientation occurs bimonthly.
