DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, March 14\, from 01:30 PM to 03:00 PM for an exciting day of research at the tidepools! \nStep into the tidepools for a hands-on day of discovery! Join Heal the Bay and researchers from UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability to explore intertidal ecology and contribute to community science. \nWe will host a two-site bioblitz to understand how marine protected area (MPA) designations affect biodiversity in intertidal ecosystems. We will compare two sites: Point Dume (within the MPA) and Leo Carrillo (control site). Join us for a family-friendly day of exploration and data collection! \nRESERVE YOUR SPOT \n\nBioblitz Schedule\n1:30 PM: Registration + Waivers \n1:30-1:35 PM: An introduction to tidepools\, Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)\, and our research project \n1:35-1:45 PM: iNaturalist Demo + Practice. Supervised practice with making high-quality iNaturalist observations \n1:45-2:45 PM: Independent Observations. For everyone’s safety\, we will stay within the study region while making observations – staff will be available for questions \n2:45-3 PM: Reconvene\, Recap\, and Closing.
