DESCRIPTION:Do you like science AND long walks on the beach? Then join Heal the Bay’s community science program\, MPA Watch! Volunteers will be trained on how to collect data while walking along the most beautiful beaches of Malibu and Palos Verdes. \nMonitoring done by MPA Watchers helps encourage enforcement and regulation around marine protected areas (MPAs)\, also known as “underwater Yosemites.” \nBecome a volunteer by attending the two-part training program\, which includes one virtual classroom training and one field training session. All training materials will be provided. \nPart 1: Classroom Training (Virtual)\nWednesday\, August 6\, 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM \n\nPlease watch the prerequisite videos and quizzes:\n\n Heal the Bay MPA Watch Classroom Training Video (Heal the Bay MPA Basic Info Quiz)\n MPA Watch Virtual Field Training Video (Field Training Video Quiz)\n\n\nThe Zoom link will be shared after you register\nYou must have previously attended a Heal the Bay Volunteer Orientation\n\nPart 2: Field Training (In-Person)\nSaturday\, August 9\, 2 PM – 4 PM \n\nClassroom training must be completed\nField training location will be disclosed at the virtual classroom training\n\nTo become an MPA Watch certified volunteer\, you must attend both sessions and Heal the Bay’s New Volunteer Orientation. You may attend a New Volunteer Orientation before or after our MPA Watch training. \nREGISTER \n  \nPLEASE NOTE:  \n**Must Register to participate. Walk-on attendance is not permitted\, and shifts are limited. \n**A previous Heal the Bay Volunteer Orientation MUST be attended and completed before you can attend the MPA event. SUMMARY:Coastal Clean Up Day Site Captain Training
DESCRIPTION:Coastal Cleanup Day is the world’s largest volunteer-driven environmental event\, mobilizing millions of people worldwide to protect our planet! In Los Angeles County\, Heal the Bay proudly leads this monumental effort\, organizing over 50 cleanup sites spanning the coasts\, rivers\, parks\, and dive and kayak sites. On Saturday\, September 20th\, 2025\, we’ll mark our 36th year of coordinating this impactful event\, welcoming more than 7\,000 volunteers to take action right here in LA County! \nAre you ready to make a difference? Become a Coastal Cleanup Day Site Captain and lead your own cleanup with the support of Heal the Bay. The Coastal Cleanup Day (CCD) Site Captain Training is designed to teach you everything you need to know about Coastal Cleanup Day\, to ensure you and your crew are well prepared to serve as leaders for your CCD site! \nAll Site Captains and Co-Captains must attend only ONE of the following sessions: \n\n\n\nJune 30th\, 6:30 PM- 8:30 PM (virtual)\nJuly 7th\, 6:30 PM- 8:30 PM (virtual)\nAugust 4th\, 6:30 PM- 8:30 PM (in Person- Captains Symposium!)\nAugust 15th\, 6:30 PM- 8:30 PM (virtual)\nSeptember 3rd: 6:30 PM- 8:30 PM (in person)\n\n\n\nREGISTER \nIn-person training will be held at the Heal the Bay HQ\, 1444 9th St.\, Santa Monica\, CA 9040. \nZoom links for online training will be emailed to you following your registration. \nPlease contact ccd@healthebay.org with any questions.
