We will compare two sites: Point Dume (within the MPA) and Leo Carrillo (control site). Volunteers will be trained on how to collect data while walking along the most beautiful beaches of Rancho Palos Verdes. \nMonitoring done by MPA Watchers helps encourage enforcement and regulation around marine protected areas (MPAs)\, also known as “underwater Yosemites.” \nBecome a volunteer by attending the two-part training program\, which includes one virtual classroom training and one field training session. All training materials will be provided. \nPart 1: Virtual Training Wednesday\, March 18\, 5:30 PM-7 PM \nPlease complete the following prerequisites: \n\nHeal the Bay MPA Watch Classroom Training Video \nHeal the Bay MPA Basic Info Quiz\nYou must have previously attended a Heal the Bay Volunteer Orientation\n\nPart 2: Field Training: Saturday\, March 21\, from 2-4 PM \n\nVirtual training must be completed\nField training location will be disclosed at virtual training\n\nREGISTER \nFAQs\nAre there any prerequisites to become an MPA Watch Volunteer? \nHeal the Bay’s New Volunteer Orientation must be attended and completed either before or after attending the MPA Watch training. Participate in citizen science training\, to “Fix the Leak!” and Honor the Contributions Women Have Made to Environmental and Climate Science \n📍 Location: Toes Beach\, Towers 41-42\n📅 Date: Saturday\, March 21\n⏰ Time: 10 AM – 12 PM \nREGISTER \nDAY OF SCHEDULE \nBEACH CLEANUP\n10 AM – 12 PM @ Toes Beach\, Towers 41-42\nHelp remove hundreds of pounds of harmful marine debris with volunteers from all over Los Angeles and Heal the Bay.\nAll volunteers must receive their Beach Talk before checking in. After the talk\, they’ll check in and gather supplies\, then begin their cleanup.\nRolling check-in will continue until 11:00 AM. Pre-registered volunteers may consider arriving after 10:15 AM to avoid the biggest crowds.\nSold out? If general admission sells out\, you can still show up. Walk-ups should arrive by 10:45 AM to allow time for registration. However\, you will be responsible for bringing your own cleanup supplies\, and you must complete the check-in process by 11 AM. \nEXPO HUB \n10:00 AM – 12 PM @ Toes Beach | Expo Hub\nExplore exhibits\, promotions\, information on how to get more involved\, and interactive activations relevant to the LA region and the entire West Coast.
