The stretch of beach earned its nickname from actress Ginger Rogers\, whose glamorous and campy onscreen persona resonated with many queer beachgoers of the era. In 2023\, Los Angeles County formally honored the beach’s history by painting its lifeguard towers in Progress Pride colors.
