Coastal Cleanup Day Communications Coordinator – Seasonal

Coastal Cleanup Day Communications Coordinator – Seasonal

About the Organization

Heal the Bay is an environmental nonprofit group dedicated to making California coastal waters safe and healthy for people and marine life. We achieve our mission by using science, advocacy, community outreach, and public education to create positive change in our environment.

About the Role

Reporting to the Beach Programs Manager, the temporary Coastal Cleanup Day Communications Coordinator creates, organizes, and publishes an inclusive and dynamic digital campaign across Heal the Bay’s channels for the 31st Annual Coastal Cleanup Day (CCD).  CCD is the cornerstone cleanup program and lives in concert with our suite of beach programs including: Adopt-A-Beach Cleanups, Suits on the Sand Cleanups, and Nothin’ But Sand Beach and Neighborhood Cleanups. The Coastal Cleanup Day Communications Coordinator works closely with the Communications, Outreach, Advancement, and Aquarium teams to coordinate a successful outreach and marketing campaign.

Every year, Heal the Bay organizes thousands of volunteers to come out and clean more than seventy beach and inland sites in Los Angeles County. This year CCD takes place throughout the month of September. However due to the response to COVID-19, and the limit on large gatherings for the health and safety of our community, we will encourage individual, household, and small group cleanups all summer with a culmination during the month of September with themed cleanups weeks such as, river week, neighborhood week and finally beach week culminating on Coastal Cleanup Day.

This part-time (25 hr/week average) temporary position is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and exposure in the environmental field. It will begin on July 13, 2020 and end on September 30, 2020. At this point in the COVID-19 recovery all staff remain working from home. We continue to evaluate the safety and necessity of returning to the office. AT this point we don’t foresee returning to our office before September 1, 2020.
