Join us on Saturday, March 14, from 01:30 PM to 03:00 PM for an exciting day of research at the tidepools!
Heal the Bay is teaming up with researchers from UCLA’s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability for an exciting study on community science and intertidal ecology. We will host a two-site bioblitz to understand how marine protected area (MPA) designations affect biodiversity in intertidal ecosystems. We will compare two sites: Point Dume (within the MPA) and Leo Carrillo (control site). Join us for a family-friendly day of exploration and data collection!
Bioblitz Schedule
1:30 PM: Registration + Waivers
1:30-1:35 PM: An introduction to tidepools, Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), and our research project
1:35-1:45 PM: iNaturalist Demo + Practice. Supervised practice with making high-quality iNaturalist observations
1:45-2:45 PM: Independent Observations. For everyone’s safety, we will stay within the study region while making observations – staff will be available for questions
2:45-3 PM: Reconvene, Recap, and Closing. Answer questions, share interesting observations
