X-treme Winter Science Camp: January 2 – January 5, 2024 (Grades K-5)
We believe the ocean is pretty radical, and your child will too after experiencing Heal the Bay’s 2024 Winter Camp! This year, we’ll dive beneath the waves to take a look at how a few of the ocean’s creatures survive in the most extreme environments, and in brilliantly fantastic ways. Join us as we explore the murky depths, glacial ice packs, and even underwater volcanic fields – the most extreme environments in the world. Through interactive lessons, hands-on activities, and direct interactions with local marine life, your child will think the ocean is totally sick – in the good way (mostly). They’ll also learn about the gnarly ways humans have impacted even the most extreme of ocean environments and what they can do to make a difference. With all of these offerings, plus a fun ice cream party for the whole family on our final day of camp, you don’t want to miss your chance to rock out this holiday season with Heal the Bay!
Tactical Tuesday:
Some animals in our ocean go to the most EXTREME lengths to survive. From deadly venom, sharp spines, and even loss of limb – these animals will do just about anything to beat the odds!
Whacky Wednesday:
Let’s take a look at the weirdest and whackiest get-ups donned by our ocean friends. Campers are encouraged to bring their craziest costume so as to not stick out among these marine oddities.
Thoughtful Thursday:
What is in a name? That which we call a fish, by any other name, would swim as fast! Join us as we contemplate intelligence in our ocean, and see just how these brainiacs utilize their smarts to win at life.
Flashback Friday:
Together, we take a look back at some of the greatest of all time – marine life in our ancient oceans. Back in their day, these animals were the most extreme, paving the way for all life as we know it today. Let’s give our props to the original superstars of marine life! Followed by a most-excellent, end-of-camp ice cream party!
