Beach Emergency Response cleanups give volunteers an opportunity to help remove debris deposited on the beach after a rainstorm.
Each fall and winter, rainstorms wash a tremendous amount of
trash and other forms of pollution through the storm
drain system straight to the beach, literally coating the sand with a layer of debris that is
dangerous for both marine life and humans.
Beach Emergency Respose cleanups tackle this problem head-on by removing storm-deposited trash from the beach before it gets pulled into the ocean by the waves and tides. The cleanups occur as soon as possible after the rain stops and take place near major flowing storm drain outlets that let out large amounts of debris on the beach.
How does it work? After a rainstorm of 1/10 of an inch or more, a cleanup location site, day and time, are chosen. An e-mail is then sent to all volunteers who have signed up on the
Cleanup Alert List
notifying them of the cleanup and all the details. Whenever you receive an e-mail about a scheduled Beach Emergency Reponse cleanup, just show up!
If you have any questions about the Beach Emergency Response cleanups, please contact
us at 800 HEAL BAY x145, or send e-mail.
